A trio of 19th Century vernacular Irish carpenters chairs in pine. Attractive wear boasting many layers of historic paintwork.

These chairs are stereotypical of primitive chairs manufactured in Ireland during the early 19th century, when the import of cost effective materials, such as pine, had been introduced into Ireland. As a result of this, furniture became available to more of the rural population, where it had not been available previously.

It was common practice during this period, to paint household furniture. The paint would protect the timber from damp conditions and make the furniture generally more attractive.
